  With the previous version it was possible to rank pages and posts according to modifications, no more.
  Since that’s not the only fall back why force the change ?

  I apologize but don’t understand what you mean by ranking posts and pages and I have answered questions here for over 11 years. Do you mean:
  Posts I Like Widget https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/posts-i-like-widget/
  Top Posts & Pages Widget https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/top-posts-widget/
  Widgets can be configured to appear only on certain pages (or be hidden on certain pages) by clicking on the Visibility button.
