New vs. Old Editor

I’ve tried the so-called new editor several times. There are many things the old one can do that the new one can’t. Example: Caption for pictures – Whatever I put in must stay as it is with the new editor. I cannot put one piece of info. on one line and another piece of info. on the next. The new editor automatically puts everything one right after the other. Example: I use a special character for a line divider. Just try to find the special characters in the new editor. It’s frustrating to say the least. The old editor is set up to be similar to Word and Doc. Not the new editor.

Please stop trying to con me into using this crappy new editor. Please take down the ludicrous message at the top of the old editor. PLEASE NO NOT DISCONTINUE the old editor. It will force me to leave WordPress.Com.

I think the new editor is nicer looking and easier to use on a daily basis, but it doesn’t have nearly the same accessibility or range of tools for blog and post management as the old editor. I’m hoping WP will eventually roll out the same functionality for the new version, and that they’ll do so before discontinuing the old editor.

soggymuse, I agree with you completely. Probably what WP should have done was revamp the appearance of the pages of the original dashboard instead of creating new pages within the WP site that obviously don’t work as well.

I am surprised this is not a bigger thread/discussion of the awful, cartoonish new editor! I have had useless interactions with WP support, like this one below…

“I really wish Dashboard was the default, not this lame menu, from which I have to hit WP Admin, to get to the Dashboard, and to avoid the cartoonish Beep beep boop bs. Please tell me you guys are planning to scrap this half-assed site-management platform.”

We are constantly making improvements to the new dashboard, including the new editor. You’ll notice that when you load the new editor, the beep beep boop message is gone.

If you’d like, you can still use the old dashboard by bookmarking it for each of your sites.

    or this response…

    Hi there,

I’m following up on our chat this afternoon regarding your feedback on changes to the editor. We really do value the feedback from our users! In answer to your question today, there are no plans to put the WP-Admin button back where it was. As more features for the new editor are rolled out, the need to access wp-admin will be considerably less. I hope you can get used to finding it at the bottom of the left sidebar, or by logging into your account adding /wp-admin to your login – this is what I do!

I find having the new editor as the default, where I am constantly rerouted to, and having to get out of to get back to dashboards, is a huge waste of time, and I, too, am considering a change away from WordPress.com. I will try setting bookmarks for the 25 active sites I built, or manage, with the wp-admin, and essentially do a work-around of the My Sites page. Perhaps, someday, WP will get it together.

    Steve
