New way to spam

On two of my blogs, I am getting ‘likes’ repeatedly from people (simpletom123, jordan latour, jseeber, Dominik Mikula, matrixsteve29, drewiacon, Dave Hunter- reaching and Derrick Brewer).

When I click their avatar to see if I am interested in following them, it takes me to a website promoting Project A.W.O.L. or some other method to make money from blogging.

How can they be stopped? I am sure this will continue to grow.

    Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Can they be stopped? no

It’s not really a new issue, and we cannot remove specific “likes.”
You can turn off all likes on specific posts:

    Add a Like Button

You can also report them, since spam AND “make millions online” are both banned here. Go to their blogs and on the grey admin bar you’ll see the blog name. There’s a drop-down menu there including Report This Content. Click on that and say “spam likes” and “make millions online” or “MLM marketing” or whatever else applies, and submit the report.

The first report of spam likes was, I think, 48 hours after likes were introduced.

    Thanks, raincoaster.

I tried but there is no Admin bar showing. They have all managed to use their own domain and eliminated this feature.

They do not have a ‘follow’ after their names on the notification box. However, there is a follow button with + at the bottom of their pages.

Maybe I should just follow them and leave lots of negative comments. :)

Don’t feed spammers! The best response is no response.

They can’t Like your posts without a WP.com blog, though. Give us the URLs attached to their usernames; it might be that they have Gravatar accounts and not WP.com accounts

They could have accounts only, not blogs.

    Can accounts be cancelled?

No. On what basis do you think that .wordpress.com would snatch back or delete any blog? the answer is only if it violates ToS.

More to the point what posted was site URLs and not profile links. Setting aside they are not even wordpress.com hosted sites.

If they are not WP.com blogs, then how are they using the Like feature?

You don’t need a WordPress.com blog to Like something, just a WordPress.com account.

I’m looking into these accounts, but would you please give me a link to the post that “Derrick Brewer” liked. I can’t search accounts by full name, and didn’t find him while skimming your Likes.

I won’t be able to do anything about the existing Likes, but I’ll see what I can do about preventing future Likes from them.

If they are not currently violating our terms of service with the WordPress.com blogs on their account, I’m not entirely sure what we can do at the moment.

    That pisses me right off!
