new webmaster questions
-
I believe that a website I am inheriting has been created using WordPress (based upon the html code I have scanned). The site is smbsf.org
Is there a WordPress FAQ or forum subtopic for people in my situation? (I am still trying to gather info from previous webmasters but they are not too forthcoming due to their other obligations.) In the past, I’ve webmaster’d sites using products like Dreamweaver or CoffeeCup’s Visual Site Designer. Am I correct in thinking that I need to download WordPress’s zipped package to my PC in order to edit the site’s files on my PC and then upload the html I produce/modify?
Any advice or guidance is greatly appreciated!
John

Yes you seem to have a WordPress.ORG software based site: http://ismyblogworking.com/smbsf.org/blog
There is a lot of help for you over at WordPress.ORG. You don’t do html with WordPress you do PHP. You can edit the files you want with most any programming editor. You don’t need to have WordPress installed on your PC, however many people do so they crash the system on the PC when they make a programming error. The good news is that WordPress software comes very powerful out of the box, also ask about Plug-in’s
HOWEVER:
The site you are asking about does not seem to be hosted on WordPress.COM so you need to make friends over at WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using.
This site is for support of sites hosted on WordPress.COM. You should address your questions to WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using: http://wordpress.org/support/
For more on the difference: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Good luck

auxclass, thank you very much! I did not want to wait around for the previous webmaster to finally get back to me and now you have given me a foundation upon which to build my knowledge.
