  We already use WordPress, but I’d like to build a new site from scratch. Can I do that without registering a URL right now? We can’t take the current site down, but would like to keep the URL the same.

  Hi there,

  All sites on WordPress.com get a free WordPress.com or .blog subdomain when the site is created, that functions just like any regular subdomain, and your site is fully online and accessible at that subdomain.

  So you can experiment and build your site at that free address and even upgrade the site while still using the free address. Then you can switch the domain over to us only once you’re ready to launch your site.
