  I already have a domain name. However I would like to see what sort of website I could create in WordPress without committing to transferring my domain address to WordPress.
  Can’t I do this?

  Hi, you’re welcome to create your new site with us before pointing the domain here. That way your current site can stay “live” until your new one is ready.

  I do recommend getting a plan earlier on if you’ll need it, since they have other features you might find useful, including direct support:
  https://wordpress.com/plans

  Then just avoid using the domain options until you’re ready, and then you can map or transfer the domain.
