New website
-
I currently have a domain and website that is created and managed by a third party. I do not wish to continue to pay the third party to do this, so I would like to start creating a new website, and when it is ready make the change and bring the new website online. I don’t want to shut off my existing website until the new one is ready. Is this something I can do?

Hello Teskemech,
Thanks for posting your question!
This is possible. After completing your new WordPress website you can do a domain name transfer to WordPress.
Please learn more about domain name transfer from the WordPress documentation below:

Hi there,
@obt28 is correct – that is not an issue – what you could do is create a site with a free WordPress.com blog address. You are assigned a.wordpress.comor a.home.blogsubdomain whenever you create a site with WordPress.com, so you can just use that as the domain as you build the site and determine whether or not this is the platform you want to use. Once you are done developing the site, you can make the decision to transfer the domain over:https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
map an existing domain:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
Or even creating a new one:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/register-domain/
Hope this helps,
