New website

I want to transfer my old website on moonfruit to a new one on Word Press. How do I go about this? Can I move my same domain name to Word Press, ie http://www.jameskenworth.co.uk? How much will starting/building a new website on WordPress cost me?

Hi there!
The cost will depend on the plan you choose. You can read more about our plans and their features here:
https://wordpress.com/pricing/
You wouldn’t be able to transfer your domain, since we don’t accept transfers from .co.uk domains, but you will be able to map it. Here are more details:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/
As for the whole process of moving your site here, we have a handy guide that will help you with that:

Let me know if you have any more questions regarding that.

Hi there,
Thanks for your message.
Re cost, my current website is for my work as a playwright, so I have text, pics, videos and links to my twitter and facebook pages, would the £3 Personal plan be right for this?
Re domain name, do I need to tell my old site that I am mapping my domain name? I am leaving/cancelling moonfruit, so unsure what happens to my domain and old website?
Re moving site, I am not sure what plug-ins and custom themes are? Is there perhaps someone or WordPress who can do all this for me? Happy to pay a cost?
Best wishes,

Yes, you could even do that under the Free plan, but you do need a paid plan to use the custom domain, so the Personal plan would be fine for that.
Re domain name, do I need to tell my old site that I am mapping my domain name?
We have two options for using a domain you already own with a site at WordPress.com:
Mapping allows you to keep the domain registered with your current domain registrar and direct it to your WordPress.com site: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/
A transfer would allow to manage both your site and domain from the same place: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/
I am leaving/cancelling moonfruit, so unsure what happens to my domain and old website?
Absolutely do not cancel your domain name there. Domain cancellation is a lengthy process and can take several months, during which time you will not be able to re-register the domain elsewhere.
I am not sure what plug-ins and custom themes are?
If you don’t know now, don’t worry. :) We provide hundreds of themes and numerous built-in features.
Plugins further extend your site, but they require a paid Business plan.
And, there are thousands of other themes out there, but these also require a paid Business plugin.
Is there perhaps someone or WordPress who can do all this for me?
You’ll be able to move your site to us following this guide: https://transferto.wordpress.com/self-hosted-wordpress-org/migrate-from-self-hosted/

Thanks for this.
So do I just cancel my subscription with moonfruit for hosting my website, but keep my domain name, http://www.jameskenworth.co.uk, and then just move my site to WordPress, and call it http://www.jameskenworth.com, for example?
One of the things that kept happening to my website at moonfruit and is partly why I want to cancel, is that my website kept receiving junk mail and their engineers said they fixed the problem, but I kept getting junk mail. What if that happens with WordPress?

Yes, you can cancel your hosting plan and keep the domain and then map it to your site as explained here:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/
If you prefer to register a new domain, like the jameskenworth.com you mentioned, you can also do that:

Akismet, the tool that’s built into WordPress.com sites keeps the Spam away, however, if you disclose your email address on the site (instead of using the contact form), you may keep receiving junk emails – we wouldn’t be able to help with that.
To avoid unwanted messages, we recommend setting a contact page with a form instead:https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/form-block-2/
I hope that helps :)
