New Website

I already own and use http://www.SpiritualJourneys.net. I wish to ‘transfer’ this to Word Press (in part because I want an integrated blog). I am NOT conversant with any technical aspect, and will be asking a friend to set it up and then I would populate and update my pages. For the time being, I just wish to get the Word Press site going, and then ‘transfer’ it. Is this possible? How?

    Hi @deepaksji,

You can map your domain (http://www.spiritualjourneys.net/) or transfer it to WordPress.com. To know the difference, please refer to the link below:

Firstly, forgive my lack of knowledge!

My site is created using Dreamweaver, bought/registered at Go Daddy and is hosted at Total Choice Hosting.

I wish to rebuild site on Word Press, and presumably best to host it with you.

How do I go about this?

Should I build (is this MAPPING?) the site on you, and when complete, then make it go “live” by then transferring it?

Since it is built on Dreamweaver, how can I TRANSFER it to you as it is? Or can I?

(I recognise my technical inabilities, so a friend will make the “skeleton” and then I will populate it since I have about 200 pages on the existing site).

    Thank You

    Hi @deepaksji,

First of all you will need to create a WordPress.com user account and site at https://wordpress.com/start. You can choose a plan according to your need.

Since it is built on Dreamweaver, how can I TRANSFER it to you as it is? Or can I?

You can migrate all of your site’s content as well as plugins and custom themes if only you will opt for a WordPress.com Business plan or higher plans.

Should I build (is this MAPPING?) the site on you, and when complete, then make it go “live” by then transferring it?

MAPPING: Domain Mapping means that you connect your domain with your WordPress.com site, but you renew the domain at your registrar (which is GoDaddy), and renew your site plan(Host) here at WordPress.com.

TRANSFER: Domain Transfer means that your domain’s registration is moved over from GoDaddy to WordPress.com and we then become your registrar, so all future renewals of your domain and plan for your WordPress.com site are managed and paid on your WordPress.com account.

Please don’t hesitate to write back to clear more doubts.
