new website domain

I have a domain name and a site currently hosted by Squarespace. I’ve received advise from you on how to export it, thanks.
My next query relates to the domain name. I have a domain name – grahampeebles.org – this is up for renewal on 6th June at $20 with Squarespace.
If I renew this can I use it for free on WordPress?
I’m trying to find a way of reducing my costs, so if I can put up the website with WordPress without and fees that would be good, however I don’t want adverts on the site.What is the best and cheapest way round this domain issue please?

To use any domain on WordPress.com, you’ll need to purchase one of our plans. The most affordable plan, the Personal, will let you transfer your domain and will also remove advertisements.

What templates/themes would you suggest – I am a writer and the site will contain all my published articles, about 1500 words long each. I was looking at Syntax. Something like this site ( of a fellow writer) would work well – http://www.monbiot.com

Syntax is a really nice theme designed with writers in mind. You can also search our Theme Showcase by using keywords like “writing” or “minimal” to narrow down the results.
