New website help

    Hi I currently have a website with wix and looking to make the switch to WordPress. I am still a rookie when it comes to websites. My questions are: will my SEO from my current site transfer to the new site or do I need to start fresh? If I do need to start fresh, how long does it typically take to show on the results? Also how will this affect my google listing for my business. I don’t want to start a new site if people aren’t going to be able to find me on google. My business depends on people finding me on the search engines since I’m a Electronic repair store. I have a custom theme ready to load in that is really good for my business. Should I keep my old site running at the same time as the new site so it doesnt affect my business? Thank you in advance for your help

    Hi there,

    happy to help you here. Just to be sure, when you talk about SEO, do you mean the appearance of your entries in search results such as Google? You probably have created meaningful pages that rank well on typical search results.

    In order to maintain your search results rankings, it’s advisable to prepare the new home of your website under a different address and only migrate the .com domain when you’re ready.

    I am not sure if you might already have migrated the .com domain? In case you are considering to switch to a completely new .com address, you’d need to create redirection from your old site but as far as I know this is not supported by Wix.

    Overall, you need to anticipate a disruption when you switch hosts. WordPress.com has quite a few tools for managing search engines and Google catches up quickly but if some of your page URLs changed, then there is a chance that old search results still appear for a few days.

    WordPress.com has support for Google My Business, please remember to disconnect your listing from the Wix site, then you can connect it via WordPress.com.
