New Website – Transferring Domain

  • Unknown's avatar

I recently acquired a domain name from a different party, but haven’t set up a website yet. They sent me the authorization code for it to transfer ownership as well. I am not sure how to go about creating the site on WordPress without actually having an existing site which I am the owner of. Also, the site will look much different from what the current format. For your reference the domain name is trailblazersfootball.com. Please advise how to get the website launched under my ownership after the transfer. Thank you!

  • Hi!

    You have two options:

    1. You can either leave your domain at its current registrar and point it to WordPress.com using these instructions:

    https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/

    2. You can transfer the registration to WordPress.com using these instructions:

    https://wordpress.com/support/incoming-domain-transfer/

Functionally, it really makes no difference. Both work equally well and will send users to your site when they enter your domain into their browser.

What it really comes down to is if you have opinions on the ease of keeping your site billing in one place (one bill from WordPress.com vs a bill from WordPress.com and a bill from your domain registrar). Or if you have a particular reason to want to use an external registrar (perhaps you have many domains and want to keep them all registered in the same place).

A bit more information can also be found here:
