New widgets area in the dashboard (block widgets): widgets went crazy

I suggest that no one use the new widgets area for now; I used it and my widgets went crazy. Fortunately, via “Customizer”, I was able to reverse some of the problems.

Hi @radtrad – Can you give a bit more info about what “went crazy”?

What were you doing when it “went crazy”?

I’ve spent a few minutes on my test site’s Widgets dashboard and was able to add new and legacy widgets to the footer area, move them to new locations in the footer area, move widgets to the Inactive area and from the inactive area to the footer area. I’m using FF95.0.2 on Win10Pro PC

After starting to use this area, suddenly, all my widgets became inactive and whenever I reactivated them they returned to their previous state after a few minutes. In addition, discrepancies in the size of widget columns in the footer emerged. Tested on Firefox, Chrome and Edge.

Perhaps I was unlucky enough to start using this feature at deployment time…

I tested it again and the problem happened again. I will have to redo everything from scratch.

I hope this is not an anticipation of the problems that will happen when the FSE becomes available.

AFAIK-the WP Admin Appearance>Widget dashboard /wp-admin/widgets.php has been active for at least a couple of months already. It appears to overcome some limitations of working with block widgets in the Customizer.

    Did you recently change themes?

If you are looking for Staff assistance on this, please let them know which site this happened on and then add the “modlook” tag for their attention. :)

As far as FSE, my Magic 8 Ball™ is as clueless as ever, but like all major changes here in the last few year, we’ll likely go through a “breaking in” period.
