I want a new window to open when a reader clicks on a link (like a URL or media from my library.)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
You can set a link to open in a new window when you add the link to a post or page on your site. When you’re adding the link, you can check the box next to “Open Link in a New Window/Tab” under the URL you enter.
We have details about how to do that in step #3 here: Links
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Okay, thanks. Now suppose it isn’t a website that I am linking to. I checked, and documents, PowerPoints, and spreadsheets open in their own window and a JPG or mp4 video will just appear on the page, but a PDF does not create its own window (and I would like it do. ) Any suggestions? Thanks.

You can still use that “Open Link in a New Window/Tab” checkbox for linking to PDFs. In some browsers, like Google Chrome, that will open up a PDF preview in a new window.
However, other browsers will download the PDF file instead of opening it in a new window in the browser. That depends on the browser itself, so there isn’t a way to force the PDF to open in a new window for everyone who clicks on the link — the person clicking the link would need to change their browser’s settings first.

That makes sense. thanks. Another question, please. I have written some captions and descriptions, but they do not turn up. How do I get them to be seen? thanks. Oh, and I really appreciate your quick responses.

Oh, and another (sorry!) When embedding a video on a page, can I shrink the size of the player? I would like to embed several videos on the page, but not force the reader to scroll down, since each one is huge. Thanks.

Hi there,
Could you send me a link to a post or page where the captions/descriptions don’t show up? I can take a closer look at what’s going on with those.
For videos, you certainly can resize them. :) You can do that by adding a specific pixel width to the video shortcode. For example, if this is the default shortcode for your video:
[wpvideo 6nd4Jsq7]You can resize it to be 300 pixels wide with this shortcode:
[wpvideo 6nd4Jsq7 w=300]We have more details about how to customize the video player here: VideoPress
