new wordpress site
-
Hi! I currently have a website built in and hosted by squarespace. I’m going to build a new site for it in WordPress and transition over once the new site is ready. What’s the best way to handle the setup in wordpress in regards to the domain while I’m not interested in associating it yet?

Hi there :)
Here you can follow the steps to import your website from Squarespace:
https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-from-squarespace/
If you prefer to keep your domain registered with your current provider, you can use it with your WordPress.com site by domain mapping.
Please read here the step by step guide:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/
To map a domain, you’ll need an upgraded WordPress.com plan on your site (such as a Personal, Premium or Business plan, etc.)
In case you want to transfer your domain later to manage your site and domain at the same place check these articles:
https://wordpress.com/support/domain-mapping-vs-domain-transfer/
https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/
If you’re using the open-source version of WordPress made by the community on WordPress.org, you don’t need to pay us anything – WordPress.com is a hosting provider, and if your site is not hosted with us, it means we’re not providing any service to you. The WordPress software itself is free to use, so you also don’t need to pay WordPress.org anything. You’ll only pay your hosting provider, who is providing the domain.
Let me know if you have further questions.

Hi there, since you don’t mention which flavor of “WordPress” you’re referring to, you might also wish to read this support guide on the differences between WPcom (where we are ) and the WordPress open source software https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
