New wordpress site posting as old sites author

  • Unknown's avatar

I had an old wordpress site I never use anymore and started a new one not realizing it automatically connected to the old site and I now have 2 wordpress sites under 1 email. Nothing I can do now about that as I want to keep the new sites name and can’t delete it and start over or I will loose the name.
Problem is, when I post with the new site, it automatically adds the old sites author at bottom of post. How can I fix this? I have tryed everything I can think of.

    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @rockimitatesart,

Have you tried to edit your Profile links setting from My Profile? You can choose there which sites you want to make linked with you.

Moreover, you can also change your data from Dashborad>Users. Hover on your name profile and click Edit. Scroll down a tiny bit until you reach the Links session. There you can remove/add the blogs/website and make them appear on the little bio after each posts.

Check those two ways and let me know if you manage to fix it.
    Cheers!

Thanks for responding. The problem is, that the old site that i no longer use is still being looked at (it is a fan site for a musician) I just no longer post on it.
I do believe that doing EITHER of the two things you suggested will change the info on the original site so that my info for the new site shows up on it, no?
I do not want anyone to go to either site and see info for the other. Does that make sense? If I edit the profile of the old site, if anyone goes there they will actually be able to see the info for the new sites name, no?

    thanks

  • Hello there,

Thanks for clarifying the last thing, that makes sense at all.

What you could do at this point is to set up another account and transfer your new blog into it.

Alternatively, you can create another user on the second blog, set it as Administrator or editor and use this second user profile to blog on it, so the bio and the profile appearing at the end of each post will be the one’s related to your new alias.

Do you think any of those two solutions may work out for you? I can guide you through the steps for setting them up if you need some assistance.

OK, I’ll have to try that. I was just hoping to use the name of the blog as the same name that posts so it doesn’t look like I combined two sites into one. I have to figure out how to do all this.

Can I name an ‘administrator’ anything I want? For instance Can I name an administrator the same name as the site so it looks like the person posting is the same as the owner of the site?

    thanks

  • Yes, you can. You can name as Administrator any user you invite to contribute to your blog.

In order to create another user, you have to use another email address. For instance, if now you use (email visible only to moderators and staff) email for the user rockimitatesart on your blog, you have to use another email address to create the lisaharrisphotography user/Administrator.

Everytime you post on lisaharrisphotography.wordpress.com, remember to use the lisaharrisphotography account/user.

Alternatively, you can do the other way around: change your actual name from rockimitatesart to lisaharrisphotography, go to rockimitatesart.wordpress.com and create another user you’ll call rockimitatesart.

I hope this is clear and that all this quoting names won’t get you confused!

I’m so sorry, this is way more confusing than I set out for LOL

You said “you can name ANY USER” ugh
So do I actually have to create 2 more accounts just so I can have a new website? I mean, create an acct. for this new website that is not attached to an old website AND create an acct. for a ‘new user’?
I will be the only one running this website, so where does the ‘new user’ come from. Do they also have to have a wordpress site?

    Thanks

I am so confused. I can not create ANOTHER site called lisaharrisphotography because it now exists (wish I had known this or it should have been easier) but it now exists on the rock imitates art email/and acct.

So I get that I have to create a whole new website and call it whatever i want, and that i then have to transfer lisaharrisphoto to it so that it is separate from RIA acct. I got all that. The thing that know is so confusing is where does this new “user” come from for the new site? Do I have to create now a 3rd wordpress site for this ‘user’?

And the ‘New user’ would have to be the name of the website that was created for them so it would have to be a different name than my new website?

Maybe, if I could ask for your help in a different way.
Knowing what you know about what I am trying to do and that I accidentally created a new site attached to my old one and need a website all by itself in the name I have discussed, and would like to post all posts for that website in the name of the website, Could I ask a BIG favor of you. Could you name the steps I have to go through in order, to get a website going that is not attached to RIA and posts with it’s own name?

    Thank, and I’m sorry.
I kind of wish wordpress would warn you when creating a NEW site that this will happen (not your fault)

    thanks

  • Hi again –

Don’t be sorry, I wasn’t very clear in my explanations!

The easiest way to sort everything out is now to create another account with another name, hence the 3rd WordPress site which you can also leave empty.

    After that you will be:
    – Transferring the lisaharrisphotography blog to your new account
    – Renaming the account ID after lisaharrisphotography
    – Updating the links and details related of your new account
    – Deleting/hiding the empty blog

I should’ve used the bullet points before, I’m so sorry if I caused you confusion!

Let me know if now it’s a bit clearer. It looks like a mess in explaining but it takes a few minutes to do it :)

    Thanks,

OK where do I go on the new site to do each of these 3 steps (sorry again, feel so stupid)
    – Renaming the account ID after lisaharrisphotography
    – Updating the links and details related of your new account
    – Deleting/hiding the empty blog

To rename the acct how do I do that?
To update the links how do I do that?
and when you say delete/hide how do I do that?

If you can explain each of those I’ll be on my way LOL….ugh

    thanks

  • @rockimitatesart, don’t feel stupid! If you don’t know how to do one things it doesn’t mean you can’t do it ;)

Luckily there’s everything you need on the Support documentation, which has step-by-step pages for everything you need at this point. w00t!

    So, here they are:

    – Renaming the account: https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/
    – Update links (amending the blogs linked to your ID/account): https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-blogs/
    – Delete site: https://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/ – within the page there’s also a link that guides you to make the site private in case you don’t want to permanently delete it.

Have a read at all of them and let me know if something isn’t clear or you have some doubts. This way you’ll have less chances to get stuck in the middle of the procedures.
    We’re almost there, phew! :)

I have to save that last email as I have to go to work now. I have a feeling though I will not be able to ‘change the user name’ as it already exists. I don’t think you can change the name if it is already on the wordpress.com’s site. I may be wrong though. will let you know and thanks
