Newb question re: condensing blog entries

  Hi, I’m brand new to blogging and I’m sure this question has been asked and answered but I can’t find the answer. I am wondering, when one has a longish blog entry, how to just tease it on the front page and then force the reader who is interested in the post to click on it for the full expanded post in a new window.

  If that is not clear, I’m talking about something like almost all the posts on a site like Gizmodo for example. They usually have only a sentence and then you can either click on the photo or the word “more” to see the entire entry. Is this possible on WordPress?
