newb selecting a theme

Ok so i dont know anything. Im trying to simply select my dream theme. i want a banner that is static. my blog post area, and maybe to the right under recent post either a slide show of maybe like 5 most recent posts or thumnail photos near my recent posts so as to advertise my other posts.

As you’re new here, you’d do best to learn how to use the site:
also, selecting a ‘dream theme’ is up to you, nobody can really help you with that as there are so many options and variations. The best thing to do is to look at the theme showcase, if necessary using the filters, and then trying out what you want. You can always make a second blog just for testing themes (a lot of us do) and keep it private, for your eyes only. That way you can muck about with things without anyone else seeing it til you’re ready to apply it to your public blog.
