newbe. Why won't my blog post widgets? Where's my sidebars?
-
I’m in the learn wordpress.com page, Get Configured. I have done everything right as I attempt to add some widgets… specifically a gallery slideshow, about me, and a facebook like box. Nothing is showing up. I cleared my cache and cookies and refreshed a bunch of times, but there are no sidebars and no widgets. Help?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You’ve picked a theme that hides the “sidebar” in a collapsed menu area. You won’t see it unless you click on the icon at the upper right corner of your screen. Here’s more about working with “Tonal” http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/tonal/

I switched from something else to tonal so i could have more post formats. The one I had before didn’t offer any. I just want to show my photos and write a little about them. I’ve been through 6 different themes…
Thank you. You’ve answered my Q. -
I must be ignorant. Can someone please guide me toward a theme which offers sidebars for a slideshow widget, full sized images which lead to a gallery, sorted by day, and dark colors.
I am going nuts trying out every theme available. I cannot get the sidebars to show up, and I cannot see a slideshow ever.I just want to show my photos. I want to load a bunch each day, so a date would be nice, and I’d like to say something about the album, then about each photo if possible.
I’m going crazy trying to find one that offers a little slideshow on the side…. I can’t seem to get any of then to do that.

Lots of them offer tiny widget slideshows, in a sidebar. I finally found a few anyway. thanks.

None of them do that as far as I am aware.
It’s the Gallery widget, rain. Same options as a Gallery, including the Slideshow option.
@imagesbyrox- full size images to a gallery While not full-size images, any of the grid style front pages will do that. Maybe have a look at the Theme Showcase’s themes for Photography.
If you are going to be posting mostly photos, post formats are fairly optional, in my opinion.
Every Post comes with a date (Pages do not).
You can post whatever information you want about the photos in the Post itself and then add a description or short caption to each of the photos when you upload them. Themes display the caption a little differently.
After you have a few posts and categorized them, you might want to look at having a Custom Menu which will dynamically create a page of all your posts in that category when the link in the menu is clicked on.

I am actually having a similar issue. I am trying to add the “contact info” widget but it doesn’t seem to be showing up. I have filled out all the information required and would like it visible on all of my pages. However, when I save and refresh my pages, nothing. I am currently running the “twenty eleven” theme. Any suggestions?

@prunussweet-I see that in the meantime you’ve switched to the Motif theme and your contact widget is showing up. But you might want to reduce the number of duplicated widgets since you’ve got them in more than one footer area.

Well, how can we tell unless you tell us what you are actually doing?
Have you gone through http://learn.wordpress.com yet? That tells you the basics.

I am a poet and writer. I use my web site to post my work and link to blog sites that post your poetry. I have gone through everything and still can not set up my page. I am kind of tired of this. Please help

raincoaster are you asking me, or beloved486 ? because I thought I made it clear above where I’m at with this, and yes, I am using the learn site. It doesn’t help with everything but it has helped a lot, and I really appreciate the help here, too. Sorry if I was not clear.
I also cannot be with it daily because of work, so I also am not responding quickly here.
