Newbie :- Add readers to Private blog

  I had posted the same question at the “privately hosted WP blog forum”, by mistake. so I am making this post again here

  I have set up a privateblog.
  now how do i add readers to this this private blog ( ie.. they can read and comment.. only)

  I have 4 emails of people whom i want to share this private blog ( only reading and commenting)

  This is what i did
  Settings – privacy – I would like my blog to be private,
  and gave the email at the username (add user)

  Apparently this does not seem to be working..

  should i ask the readers to register themselves and then give that username here ???

  Please guide me.. I am still learning,

  Yes, that’s it.
  Ask them to be sure to tell you their username and email – it’s where things are more likely to go wrong.

  All i had to do is “enter their username”.. at the USername box in Settings – privacy – I would like my blog to be private

  Presto.. private blog for private readers

  How come I cannot find a privacy setting anywhere?

  Didn’t set it up private at first entry (which I thought I had) –
