Newbie – Help needed – Question about domain, hosting, transfer, authoring, etc.

  First off – This is a bit new to me, so please excuse me if the questions are naïve.

  I actually do have a technical background building websites in classic ASP, but that was a long time ago.

  I am interested in creating a blog and buying a domain name and hosting services.
  Today, I decided on a domain name and did a search on whois.net see if it was available.
  After seeing it was, I clicked on a link to purchase it. The link took me to a site called Hover.com to buy/register the domain.

  So, I now own the domain name, but I’m not entirely sure what the distinction is between the domain name, the hosting site and the technology used to create the site and add content.

  My questions are –
  • When you buy a domain – are you just buying the name or are you also paying for hosting as well?
  • Is WordPress a tool/technology used to build a site/blog or is it a domain name provider and hosting service as well?
  • (My key question) – Since I have already bought this domain name from Hover, can I still host on WordPress and/or design & build it using WordPress (do I need to map or transfer the domain or something like that)?

  Any help is really appreciated.

  A> If you want to host wordpress site, you need to purchase both domain and hosting. Domain is just the name. Hosting is the place for your domain.

  A> WordPress is CMS and this is very user friendly. Most of great sites use wordpress too. It is very easy to learn. Although you are not IT programmer, you can learn it. WordPress has many great plugins that you can install. Please just make sure that you dont install JUNK plugin, it can make your site become very slow. Just read this tips http://bit.ly/1FSzj84

  A> Domain and hosting are different. If you purchase domain from 1 registrar, it doesnt mean that you need to host your domain with them. You can ALWAYS host it elsewhere.
