newbie help (RSS feed button, post placement)

  Hi,

  your full support section is intimidating.. I hope I can get to know some simple things I need, and study the whole things later :D

  1) How do I add the button to follow my posts by RSS feed to my blog?

  2) Can I have a chosen post displayed on top of my homepage? Can I do this for each category?

  Hi there. You’re right, there is a bit of a learning curve, but it gets easier as you get to know the system :) A good place to start is the “Learn WordPress” support doc (http://learn.wordpress.com/) and the “Video Quick Start” tutorial (http://en.support.wordpress.com/video-quick-start/). They cover all the basics and aren’t as overwhelming as the full support section.

  1) How do I add the button to follow my posts by RSS feed to my blog?

  I think the easiest way to do this is the RSS Links widget which you can add to your sidebar. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/rss-links-widget/

  You can also use the instructions in this support doc if you merely want a button: http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-social-media-buttons-to-your-sidebar-or-footer/

  Some themes also have custom buttons, but yours don’t appear to.

  2) Can I have a chosen post displayed on top of my homepage?

  To make a specific post appear at the top of your home page you set that post as Sticky. If you set more than one post as Sticky, they will all appear at the top with the most recent first. Some themes will display Sticky posts in a post slider or featured content are instead of at the top of the feed.

  Can I do this for each category?

  Not exactly sure what you mean here. On your home page it will show posts from all categories. If you want posts from a specific category to appear on a page, you’ll need to set up a category page using the custom menu feature. I don’t know if sticky posts work on category pages.
