Newbie: How to display Categories

Hi, I am new to this, so thanks in advance.

This is to be a daily blog with archived past writings from books, news columns, etc. I am using the Categories widget, but it doesn’t seem to be quite what I am after.

What I’d like to do is have one main page of daily blogs with a side bar option of seeing other writings, namely past PI news columns. So to put it another way, I want the regular blog to show up on the main page while the writings from the column are viewed optionally by the reader. Does any one know a way to do this correctly?

Also, this isn’t Larry Lee, I’m his PA so don’t let this reflect badly on him. :)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

can we get a link to the blog in question, starting with http?

Thanks! I am playing withthe pages option, but maybe you know a better approach.

You don’t want pages. You want the Recent Posts widget and the Archives widget, I think. Unless you’re talking about linking to the writing somewhere else on the web, and then you’d want a text widget and just add the links in by hand.

Awesome, I’ll give it a try! Thanks.

Well Recent Posts does list recently added news articles in the sidebar, but they still show up in the main blog on the front page. What I want is to have the Daily Blog category show up on the main page and have the news articles not show up there, and show up separately in the sidebar, easily identifiable as past sport writing articles. Basically I want the news articles to be optionally viewable, not as part of the main blog.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

That cannot be done at WordPress.com.

What you CAN do is categorize them separately, deal with the fact that the way blogs work is that everything shows up in the main blog page, and try to feature the category of your choice really prominently in the sidebar.

    OR

You could register more than one blog, and link to them in the sidebar.

Ok, that was the conclusion I was reaching as well, that this is not possible. Ok then,I shall find a way! Thanks so much for your help!
