Newbie in Tears and feeling hopeless

I am REALLY GREEN to the 10th power, and so all my searching the forums and the faqs (including the terminology and such) is near useless to me. Everything just leads me to one other post or bit of information that I simply can’t understand. Lots of these informative posts “send” me somewhere, but don’t tell me where in the world I find that helpful link or whatever. “Go to Blah>blahh?Blogga” does me no good because I have no idea where on any of my dashboard links “Blah” might be! I so want to do this blogging thing, and am so technologically brain challenged. Is there some phone help somewhere where someone could talk me through my blog and my confusion?

Anyhow, Here are my current desperate questions (Let me put my soggy hanky down for a moment…):

1–How come when I create new catagories, the little “subtitle” line keeps saying “uncatagorized?” Am I supposed to add some key word or something to name that catatory, and if so, where??

2–I need to have a little static line that tells my readers what they are going to find in each catagory. I’ve put that in the “title” section, but it is all caps and stupid looking. Help?

I workship at your lotus feet :>)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There isn’t any phone support for wordpress.com. But don’t panic, you’ll soon get the hang of things. And there’s plenty of people here in the forum who will help you.

The most helpful thing you can do is to give us a link to your blog (the address that starts http:) so that we can see how far you’ve got and where you’re going wrong.

Before anything else, please give a link to your blog. We are really just GUESSING that what we say applies to you otherwise.

    1) You can’t just make up categories and have them stay. Categories don’t exist until you attach them to a post. So when you are writing a post, on the right hand sidebar is a place for categories. Click on Add New and put the category you want to associate with that post in there. You can add as many as you like, but you have to do it one at a time.

    2) All caps is dependent on your theme. Pick a different theme, under Appearance->Themes.

Thanks for your kindness! Here is my blog: http:www.susanspracticeblog.wordpress.com.

I’ll read those links right now. Here’s hoping I can translate them!

Okay, thanks. Just so you know, the actual address is: http://susanspracticeblog.wordpress.com You don’t need the www.

You have written one post. If you edit this post, you will be able to add categories as raincoaster explained. You can only have categories with posts in them. Just write posts and as you need them, add new categories.

What you could do to avoid the all capitals bit in the sidebar, is create a sticky post. Write it like a normal post, then follow the instructions here. This will make a post which always appears at the top of your blog (you should only ever have one or two posts like this) which you can use to explain whatever you need to new visitors.

You may want to look at the difference between pages and posts and see if pages might suit your needs for the blog, too.

    Hope that helps.

I’m also a noobie to bloggy world. I learn something new everyday, especially reading the WP forum and basically posting to feed my political and news addiction :)
