Newbie Needs Help – Trouble With Placing Posts

I almost hate to ask this question after reading the other “complex” questions everyone else is dealing with. But I’m not a programmer, just a person creating a blog. So here goes…I’ve created a blog with multiple pages, but I can’t seem to post on the other pages. Everytime I try to post the content that I want on the other pages, it shows up on the front page. So I went to the dashboard and made the front page a static page, and poof, it disappeared from view–not on the dashboard, but on the page that readers will see). For an hour or two, all hell broke loose while I tried to get the content I wanted on the static page to show up, and finally I just made the front page *not static* and it reappeared, and all was right with the world. But I still have the same problem: How do you write a post to a particular page? Each page on my blog deals with slightly different content. Any assistance anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

we get blogging questions of every level, so don’t be shy about asking yours however simple it may be.

reading that should help you understand what’s a post and a page about, and why you couldn’t put a post in a page. =)

to make certain posts appear in a page, a click on a chosen category will make posts of that category appear in one page.

Thanks for the lightning fast response, Sulz, I really appreciate it. I’m going to play around with the info you gave me, and will (hopefully) mark this resolved. Also, thanks for the encouragement. I admit it can be a bit intimidating reading these cerebral discussions, when all I really want to do is make sure the lady on the picture I uploaded looks pretty for the readers. =)
    Thanks again,
    Rita

Ok newbie here too, Im having sort of the same problem.
I have different posts and comments that are left uncatagorized. I am trying to move these into the pages they belong in and cannot figure out how to do it. Everything that was uncatagorized was showing up on my front page. I did change my theme, although I dont think that had anything to do with it. In the sidebar, there is just a number instead of the page name. I dont get this. How do I move a post to the correct page???

How do you write a post to a particular page? Each page on my blog deals with slightly different content.

Blogs are not websites. Blogs have only one page that automatically update with your new posts. All the other pages that you create sit outside the blog structure; they are not dynamic and do not automatically update. Pages also cannot have categories assigned to them. They are intended to be used for static content only and any additions made to them must be done manually by editing the page.

If you want all your posts on one topic to be on a particular “page” then all you have to do is tag them appropriately. Then, when people hit that tag in your sidebar, all the posts relating to that are automatically gathered and displayed on one virtual “page”.

But yes, when you write them and publish, they all show up in a linear, chronological stream. That’s what a blog IS. If you need more separation than that, you need separate blogs.

Thanks everyone for your help. I really appreciate it. I will now mark this closed. Have a great day–and Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there.
