Newbie Question about Domain Name
-
Hi..I have a domain name registered with GoDaddy already and want my wordpress blog to have that name…question is though, can wordpress still do the hosting for my own domain name? How does that work? Or…do I need to buy hosting from GoDaddy or someone else if I have my own domain name? I’m confused…thanks.

Sonjaadams, just go to your dashboard and then upgrades. There you’ll have an option of associating a domain with your blog. Present blog – something.wordpress.com, you want something.com – right?
You will need to buy some credits, change the nameservers of your domain name at GoDaddy (very simple process) to ones that WordPress will give you after you buy credits, and that’s it, WordPress will catch your domain name and auto connect your domain name with your present something.wordpress.com. You don’t need to buy any hosting.
And then you can promote something.com and manage exactly same way as something.wordpress.com. That’s what I do at cafearjun.com

Yes, you can register your domain through WordPress.com. The cost of registration and mapping is $15. If you already own the domain and simply want to map it to your WordPress.com blog, the cost is $10.
