Newbie Question About Premium Themes & Custom Design
-
Hello,
I’m just getting set up and trying to make a decision about purchasing a Premium Theme. My question — if I purchase a Premium Theme will I still need to purchase the Custom Design package to get the fonts, css code access, et al?
Thanks in advance for your help! – Anne

Some themes have some limited abilities to chnage font colors but not font families or styles. Consult the detailed theme descriptions here http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sort/premium/ and note the features each one has are found in the right hand column as well as in the text on theme description pages.
Unless you accept a Premium theme as is ie. exactly the way it is designed to function and appear then you will also need a custom design upgrade.
These are 3 ways to change fonts on WordPress.com blogs.
(1) Changing font families, colors and size in text in posts or pages either post by post or page by page by coding into the HTML editor.

(3) Changing all font families, colors and sizes throughout the whole blog by purchasing an annually renewable Custom Design upgrade and using Typekit Fonts with Staff support. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#custom-fonts

Thanks so much timethief. This information is very helpful. I really appreciate the links you added… they give me some options I wasn’t familiar with yet.

If I want to customize my wordpress.com blog’s font, do I have to pay $30/year even if I already have a paid account with typekit?!

@adilbmady: Yes, you still need to purchase the Custom Design addon to enable linking to your typekit account. Linking your existing Typekit account gives you more options than just the Custom Design addon.
