newbie questions!

Hi, I have a personalised URL with godaddy that i want to use with my wordpress site, and I’ve bought a managed wordpress hosting package with godaddy as well. If i select ‘Transfer to wordpress’ on the ‘use your own domain’ page, will this invalidate my hosting package with godaddy? Or, would i be better selecting ‘map your domain’ and keeping them seperate? thank you in advance!

Hi,
Using a domain you already own and domain mapping are two ways of saying the same thing. That’s why the title of the relevant support page is Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping).
I’ve called for staff attention to the topic, because they might have helpful suggestions. Staff will respond here.

Hi there,
will this invalidate my hosting package with godaddy
I doubt it, but I’m not sure what their policies are. That said, if you move the site here, will you be using the hosting account for something else? You wouldn’t want to try to host the same site in two different places at once, so unless you had other plans for your hosting there, you might not need it.
If you’ll clarify what you’re hoping to do, we’ll see if we can help you get things straightened out. Or in the meantime, you can just buy the plan and opt to map the domain for now. Then (once you have a paid plan) you can get in direct touch with support here, too, so we can help you sooner:

Hi, thank you for your response! So, I’ve bought a URL and a ‘managed wordpress’ package from GoDaddy to build a small ecommerce/blog site. I’ve since bought hosting from BlueHost to build a wordpress.org site with the woocomerce plugin. I may have sorted my problem (or just created more!) I’m not sure yet

You’ll only ever need one hosting account, so make sure you stick with either GoDaddy’s Managed WordPress or Bluehost, but not both.
One note though, if you have registered the domain with GoDaddy, don’t cancel the domain if you like Bluehost better, just cancel GoDaddy’s Managed WordPress. Canceled domains are generally not available for re-purchase for several months, but you can always direct a domain registered with GoDaddy to Bluehost.
