Hi
I am new to WordPress and have just started building my first static website using the MistyLook theme.
Here’s what I have so far:

Regarding the home page, I would like some help please to:
1) Remove the “Leave a comment” link
2) Remove the “Archives” and “Categories” sections
3) Remove the RSS feed linksWith best regards
David
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Thanks for your reply.
I have no widgets in the sidebar. Does that mean all these things must be done by editing the CSS?
What is ‘the CSS upgrade’?

We cannot add themes at wordpress.COM, we are limited to the themes found in the dashboard under appearance > themes. Themes found on the internet are for self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/If you have CSS editing experience, you can get the paid custom CSS upgrade and renew it annually. It will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but it does not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. It does not allow you to remove footer links to the theme designer or to wordpress.com. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes here at wordpress.COM.
Since there is no official Staff support for the CSS upgrade, and precious little Volunteer support, I recommend that you don’t buy the upgrade unless you have at least moderate understanding of HTML and CSS because you must be prepared to do the work on your own.
If you are considering purchasing the upgrade, you can go to Appearance > Edit CSS. There wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try before you buy.

Thanks timethief. This is a lot for me to take in. I am just experimenting on WordPress.com. I intend to migrate to a third party hosting company when I have something reasonably good. Will it be easier for me to modify the CSS when I move to the third party host?

With a self-hosted blog, you can edit anything you want as long as you have the knowledge to do that, so yes you can edit the CSS for free with a self-hosted blog.
If you plan on using Mistylook on the self-hosted blog, do note that the self-hosted version has gone through a number of revisions and the appearance is not exactly the same as the version here.

What you listed cannot be done free of charge on your wordpress.com blog. If you get a wordpress>ORG install the answer is “yes”. You will be able to hack the theme and template to your heart’s content but do know this. If you purchase a CSS upgrade that’s for a wordpress.COM blog then the CSS editing is theme specific. It’s not for a wordpress.ORG install so you will have to do it all again. I think you will benefit from being crystal clear on the differences between free hosted wordpress.COM blogs and self hosted wordpress.ORG installs.
