Newbie – Stats Seem Off – PLEASE HELP
-
Several odd things.
1. Date: It appears to be a day ahead. It actually says “Stats for May 22, 2015”. What time zone is WP in?2. Stats show I had two likes for the blog I posted today (May 21) and two new followers today (May 21), but no visitors! How can that be?
3. I used to be able to see how many visitors, views, likes and comments all in one glance. Now i have to click on each one.
I would really appreciate it if someone would please explain. Thank you!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

hi,
Could you please check the time zone settings for your site. Have you configured it to reflect your time zone?
You can set the time zone by following instructions from here.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/general-settings/2/#timezone.
Setting the correct timezone in settings should fix the issues 1 & 2 you mentioned.I am guessing, you are accessing the site from the URL https://wordpress.com/stats/ . Am I correct? This is a newer interface for the stats page and is aimed at making the stats page more user friendly and intuitive.
If you want to access the older stats page, you may want to head over here(https://mindfulmomentsmeditation.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats). -
My site stats have always seemed a bit unreliable – friends in the UK told me they’d enjoyed the blog on days when the stats said the only visitors were from the US – but now they’ve stopped working altogether. None of my posts in the last 8 days have registered any visits or views at all.
My blog – beyondthewindowbox.wordpress.com – has never had much traffic but used to register a few visitors and 5 to 20 views a day. I corrected the time zone for my blog about a week ago. Could I have accidentally turned stats off at the same time?

Thank you simplysaru and judithw2015 for your comments.
judith, my blog gets even less traffic according to my stats. Today, my stats show nothing since May 16. Yet, yesterday I had three likes. So, I still don’t understand how one can like my blog without visiting and/or viewing it. (I wish I could bold that last sentence!)
simplysaru, thank you so much for the information about the time. I followed the link and changed my settings. I found it quite odd that it was so difficult to find a state that reflects my time zone (CST). There were some states, like Indiana, that were listed w/four different cities. Most states weren’t listed at all. Surprisingly, none of the west coast (PST) states OR cities were listed.
I accessed my settings by clicking on “My Site.” This is the link https://wordpress.com/stats/day/mindfulmomentsmeditation.wordpress.com
In order to see the likes, I have to click on it and then all the other stats disappear. I wonder why we can’t see it all at the same time. :-/ I scrolled down the page and found a link to the old stats. I clicked on that and they are even less accurate. :-(
It doesn’t seem very intuitive or easy to find out who has liked my blog. It seems there is no way to do that on my stats or blog pages. Instead I have to go check my email. :-(
Thank you both again for your comments. Judith, I wish I had an answer to your question. Now that I’ve corrected my time zone, I’ll keep an eye on whether or not my stats show up.

Yet, yesterday I had three likes. So, I still don’t understand how one can like my blog without visiting and/or viewing it. (I wish I could bold that last sentence!)
Our stats are not real time stats and take time to update. There are frequent fluctuations that most do not notice because we aren’t watching the process. For details see here http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/ and note the views and viewers take hours to update.
Our stats are page view stats. But please do not assume that everyone who clicks a follow, like, share, reblog or comment link actually reads the post on your blog because odds are they may not.
Follow, like, share, reblog or comment clicks are not page views. In fact, follows, likes, shares, comments and reblogs are completely misleading when you are talking about page view stats.
Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com/Gravatar account who is logged into WordPress.com can “follow” your blog, “like”, “share” and “reblog” your posts and “comment” in several locations such as the Reader, without ever clicking into your blog and creating a single page view stat. Subscribers control how frequently they receive your posts (instantly, daily, weekly) and can comment without clicking into the blog.
Logged in visitors using a mobile can read the full post without creating a page view stat. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/wordpresscom-reader-show-full-text?replies=31#post-1373606
You can control the length of the entry sent out on your RSS feed here Dashboard > Settings > Reading. Choose the “summary” setting for your RSS feed rather than to “full text”. That will compel followers who are not using mobiles to click into the blog to read the full post which will create a page view stat.

Thank you timethief. I understand that a view, like or follow wouldn’t necessarily necessitate the person(s) actually reading the blog. What I don’t understand is how can someone come to the blog, click like or follow and it not count as a visitor. But I guess the whole stats thing will remain a mystery for me. :-)
I read the link you provided, but still have no clue how the stats process works. I can’t even find where to like another person’s blog. That’s ok. I’m just not going worry about it. I’ll just assume that the stats may or may not be accurate.
Anyway, thank you all again for your help with this.

mindfulmomentsmeditation thank you for your response to my comment. I put the question about accidentally turning off the stats to one of the ‘happiness engineers’ yesterday and was told that it’s not possible.
As a new blogger I assumed that the stats reflected everyone who was reading or looking at my posts. I got distracted into checking that someone was reading each new post as a test of whether or not I was writing something interesting. Now I understand that the counting process is more complicated than it appears at first. I’ll get back to writing and rely on the comments of real people for feedback. Best wishes for your blog, Judith
