Newbie – WordPress.org
-
Hi everyone – I just transferred my Blogger blog to WordPress.com and found out I cannot add Google Friend Connect or Random.org. Is there a way to purchase a paid upgrade to add these items (and inlinkz) – or can I switch my wordpress.com to wordpress.org and where do I find out how to do this & pricing? I can’t pay a lot as I’m laid off and money is tight. I do know HTML and can usually figure things out but I’m unfamiliar with wordpress.
Any advice or suggestions is appreciated.

WordPress.ORG does not actually do hosting. That is where they distribute and support the wordpress software.
To use the wordpress.ORG software, you need to have your own domain name, hire a web host ( http://wordpress.ORG/hosting/ ), install and configure the wordpress software from wordpress.ORG and then transfer whatever you have here for content over to the new self-hosted install.

Figure an average total monthly cost of around $10 to $25. You will be responsible for all installations, all upgrades, all backups and all troubleshooting. If something goes wrong, you will have to figure it out and fix it.
WordPress.COM is now offering a guided transfer where they take care of installing the software and such for you, and also transferring your content for a flat $99US.

Thanks everyone – I’m seriously thinking about going back to blogger. I did purchase hosting and a domain name from domainspricedright – I use them for my ecommerce site and they work great.
I appreciate your help.
