Newest post did not send via email, or twitter, and does not show up in stats.

My posts have always sent out almost instantly and seamlessly via email. I also have my twitter account connected, and this has also always worked for me. I posted on October 20, and this worked with no problems, and then again on October 22. The one from Oct. 22 (Titled: ‘Lies and Collaboration’) did not send out via email or twitter. l checked the stats at WordPress, and noticed that this post has not connected correctly there either. It shows up as ‘#580 (loading title)’ and when I click the link, I get the message: ‘We don’t have that post on record yet.’

I don’t want to re-post the same post, because I want the original links to work, and because there are comments there that I would like to preserve.

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

If the post has published and the publicize shares did not work for some reason, there is not a way to go back and re-trigger them for a previously already published post. The best thing to do from this point is to try to pay close attention to the next post to see if there is any anomaly you can figure out in what you did that was different from before to help try to pinpoint the source of the problem. I can also try to help test, but there are a number of variables so it’s a hard thing to test what happened to you in this one specific experience.

The ‘#580 (loading title)’ sounds possibly like a Jetpack or syncing issue to me. I checked http://17goldenfish.com/ and it does appear you are using a self-hosted WordPress.org setup. Did you create and schedule the post using the built-in editor in your WP Admin pages or did you use the editor at WordPress.com to publish or an outside app? Can you walk through what your publishing steps were or maybe keep track of those next time you publish so that way people who want to test similar steps can have an idea of how to try to match your same steps in testing?

Hello, and thanks for your reply. I created this post using the built-in editor in my WordPress Admin section. I have used this exact same process for every post, which is part of why this is so confusing to me. Maybe I hit the publish button before the save button this time? That’s the only thing I can even think of, but it is hard to fathom how that might affect anything.

I think that the Jetpack or Syncing issue must be related because this is the first time I’ve seen this as well. I am hoping that if we can fix one we can fix the other. Do you have a starting place for testing things out?

    Thanks.

I’m sorry but don’t have a starting place for testing since it’s really hard to say from my end what may have happened on yours. The best thing you can do is keep publishing as usual and try to keep close track of your steps so that if the problem does happen to appear again there is more information to go on. It’s a hard type of problem to debug because there are so many variables involved along the way.

OK. Is there a way to get WordPress/Jetpack to recognize the post so I don’t keep getting the “We don’t have that post on record yet” message?

    Thanks again.

The best advice I can think of for that would be to make sure your WordPress and Jetpack versions are always updated to the latest and you don’t have any strange plugins installed that could be causing other interference.

  • Unknown's avatar

I do every update as soon as I see it, and I don’t use many plugins (I don’t think any strange ones). Again, I just don’t think that there were any changes between 10/20 when everything worked, and 10/22 where there was this hiccup. Certainly no new plugins.

Is there a way to jolt WP into recognizing the post or will this one be forever marked as “We don’t have that post on record yet?” Not the end of the world, but just a bit irritating, and I’d like to fix it.

  • Unknown's avatar

There is not a way to jolt it. You could share it manually from this point using sharing buttons below the post if you have turned those on.

Maybe I’m not being clear. I’m not worried about publicizing the post. I can send emails or a tweet out myself.

What I am now asking is how to get the WordPress Stats to recognize the post.

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry about that. I was going too fast. Still the answer is the same, I don’t know of a way to jolt stats into recognizing the previously published post if the title is set to “loading title.” I’m sorry I don’t have a better answer for you!

I researched a bit further and found that this problem seems to happen if a post as been published while Jetpack is disconnected from WordPress.com. I tested and took some additional screenshots and made sure there is a bug report on file for this issue. From here, we will need to wait for a developer to review the issue and since it is not a widespread bug from what I can tell it may take some time to get to it. In the mean time, please make sure your Jetpack plugin is up-to-date and that it is showing up as connected before publishing your next post. If the same problem happens again, let me know the new post link and I can try gathering some additional information for the bug report in case it helps.

Apologies for the inconvenience, and apologies again that I was going too fast before.

Thanks for your help. Hopefully it was just a temporary glitch, and things will be normal with the next post.
