Newly purchased domain pointing to wrong wordpress site.

I work at the Winter Haven Public Library. We had a WordPress class on Tuesday evening. Today, Friday, a patron came in and inquired about getting a domain name. I went to wordpress.com using one of the computers used in the class. It was already logged into someone’s account from the class. Even though wordpress was logged into Tuesday’s student, I decided to check Help about getting a domain name. I ended up in an area that provides a form to register a domain name. Without thinking, I allowed the patron to purchase her domain name (maureenbradford.com), forgetting that I was logged into someone else’s account. Is there a way to point her domain to bradfordfilesonline.wordpress.com instead of mkprettyladies.wordpress.com (the student’s site)? The patron, Maureen Bradford, came in for help and I really feel bad that I caused this problem for her. Her email address is (email visible only to moderators and staff). The wrong account belongs to (email visible only to moderators and staff). Maureen is not very computer savvy and was confused over the whole process…which I am very sorry for. You may contact her at the gmail address above, and/or me at (email visible only to moderators and staff). My work phone is 863-291-5880 x225 (Mon-Fri 9-5). My cell is 856-889-0120. Thank you! Hi Linda and Maureen!

So this is definitely an odd situation. Transferring domain upgrades to different user on the same site is easy, as is transferring a domain to a different site controlled by the same user. But those require waiting until it’s owned for 60 days and in our case we have two different people with two different site owned for one day.

The simplest solution I can find is to cancel and refund the domain purchase. When a domain is cancelled this quickly it’s held by the domain registrar for about a week before being made public again. I’ve gone ahead and performed that cancellation and refund.

After waiting the week, if you’ll help Maureen register the domain again it will be the same process as the first time- just make sure she’s logged in under the right account. :)

    Best,

Was Maureen Bradford’s charge card credited? Jeremy sent her instructions to register for the domain again, but it’s asking for her to pay.

Sorry…I reread your message and see that you did do a refund. She emailed me saying that it hadn’t showed up yet. I’ll ask her to double check.

    Hi there!

It can take about a week for refunds to appear in bank statements, but we’re about at the point now.

You can verify the refund in the Billing History page for the user account where the purchase was made:

    https://mkprettyladies.wordpress.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=billing-history&user=73462101

Let me know if after double-checking with the bank, the refund isn’t there and I can investigate the transaction with our credit card service.

    Best,

    -Alex G.
