New/Old dashboard and toolbar
-
Confused about the two different dashboards and toolbars. There is the old standard dashboard, with the black background toolbar, and then there’s a new, wider, pale-blue/grey background dashboard & toolbar. Two questions for this: 1. Where can I find an option to stay on either the old dashboard or new dashboard (exp. a button or option that I can permanently choose to operate on one or the other)? 2. Why does one or the other dashboard and toolbar arbitrarily come up when I’m working within my dashboard?
When I am on my NEW dashboard and click some navigation items, for example “Blog Posts” or “Pages”, those come up within the new dashboard. However, if I click on “Sharing”, for example, that opens up within the OLD dashboard automatically. This is highly confusing and a little irritating. Thank you for any help!

Hi there. Unfortunately, we cannot pick between the two.
In the Reader and on the New Dash, you’ll see the blue admin bar. On the forums, support pages, when viewing other blogs, and on the classic WP-Admin dashboard, you’ll see the black admin bar.
As to your second question: the New Dash does not have all the functions and options of the classic dash, so if you select one of those options on the New Dash it redirects you to the classic dashboard.
They’ve been tinkering with the New Dash for over two years now, and it is still a work in progress, so I’d recommend you bookmark a link to your classic dashboard in order to avoid the New Dash and the resulting frustration.
You DO have the option to select the classic post/page editor over the new Beep Beep Boop one. Make sure you have cookies enabled on your browser and open the Beep Beep Boop editor. At the bottom of the sidebar is a link to Switch to Classic View. That will take you to the classic editor and save the preference by placing a cookie in your browser. Next time you click the New Post or Edit Post button it will take you to the classic editor automatically.
Be aware that if you clear your browser cache or use a different browser and/or computer you’ll need to do this again.
