News Ticker
-
Is there a way to have a news ticker in wordpress? Not with RSS, but with text like Breaking News: blah blah blah!
I only need the HTML to do this, because I can put it in the Header Widget area.
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can insert 3rd-party widgetes such as the ones you can find here:
-
Sorry I didn’t specify this but, I would like the news ticker to be at the top of the page with only one line of text.

If you can find such a widget and the code it gives is flash, you can insert it the way I explain in my post.
(By “ticker” I assume you mean something that updates automatically. Or don’t you mean that? Do you mean something you’ll update yourself manually?)

Then you just go to Appearance > Widgets, add a Text widget to your sidebar, type or paste the text, Save. You only need HTML if you want some formatting other than the one produced automatically. What exactly are you looking for?

@kylestewart98
Are you aware of another blog that has what you want? If so please post a link to that blog and panaghiotisadam will work from there. Also what exactly do you mean by “at the top of the page” . We cannot edit either themes or templates on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. We cannot use Javascript or iframe widgets. It’s due to the limitations that panos is aware of that he needs you to point to another site that has exactly what you want so he can work from there. -
Well, apparently you haven’t. If you just want to display some text you’re going to update yourself manually, then you go to Appearance > Widgets, add a Text widget to your sidebar, type or paste the text, Save (as I already said). You don’t need HTML for that. As I already said, you only need HTML if you want to change its formatting. If you want to change its formatting, you need to tell us what exactly you’d like to change.

Oh, and timethief is right about the other thing too: what “Header Widget area”? The blog linked to your username is using The Morning After, and The Morning After has no “Header Widget area”. Are you talking about a different blog?
-
http://www.cbc.ca/ Around the top of the page where it says Developing, except not scrolling.
-
In the theme that I have, I have a header widget area. Don’t worry about that part, I only need the HTML code.

Click this link and become aware that panaghiotisadam the author of the following article Guide to The Morning After Theme. -

• The example you linked to isn’t a “news ticker”, it’s a slider with links to posts on the same site, and it’s not “scrolling”.
• You “only need the HTML code”? For what? Plain text or linking? Styled how exactly? Placed where exactly?
• “Don’t worry”? TMA doesn’t have a header widget area, it has a Home Page Feature Widget Area. The widgets you put there will show up above your two sidebars, on the main posts page only, below the header area. If you’re referring to another blog, we would need the link to it, because the solutions are theme-dependent.Sorry, we cannot communicate, so I cannot waste more time on this.
-
ALWAYS give us the direct link to the blog you’re talking about in the first post, otherwise as you can see, we waste a lot of time.
-
Panaghiotisadam: Plain text, as I said above.
I said I was using Nuntius, not The Morning After.
Airodssey: magnaefamae.com is the blog I would like this for.
raincoaster: Sorry, I am new to WordPress.com support forums.
-
Thanks for confirming that communication is impossible. If you want plain text, and if you don’t want any special styling or positioning (or as long as you say nothing about these two), then (as I had already said, twice), you don’t need any HTML, you just type the damn text in a Text widget.
Bye.
