Newsy: extend sidebar separator all the way down
-
Rich, hope you had a good week !
OK, that’s enough small talk. [grin]
On Tuesday, will you please remind me how to do that, please? – I’ve tried all the seemingly logical things I can think of, and none has worked.
Obviously there were not as logical as they appeared to me to be. :-|

Hi M.R., since either the sidebar or the content can be the longest on a page, I think the best way to do this would be to have the borderline on both the left of the sidebar and the right of the content. Normally these would then end up side-by-side, so we then use position: relative on the sidebar and move it one pixel over so the lines are in the same exact location.
.wide-sidebar #primary { border-right: 1px solid #DDDDDD; margin-right: 0; padding-right: 30px; width: 641px; } #sidebar-wide { position: relative; right: 1px; } -
Done that, Rich – problem then is that the middle column (right-hand of the two content columns) is squashed to the left margin.
I know I should be able to work this out; but it’s 5:20 am Downunder …

I would be ever so grateful if you could solve this last bit before you knock off for the day, Rich, me old china …

Wow, I missed that by a mile. Delete what I had give above and add the following instead.
.wide-sidebar #primary{ border-right: 1px solid #DDDDDD; width: 671px; } #sidebar-wide{ position: absolute; right: 20px; } #main { position: relative; } .blog #content:before, .archive #content:before { left: 47.5%; } -
This is well beyond my pitiful level of comprehension, so I feel better about not being able to do it – not by a bull’s roar !
Thank you very much indeed !!!! -

You know, we did this before, you and I: but I’m buggered if I can find WHERE.
No matter.
Go home.
