NextGEN Gallery pop-up not working when I try to insert it into a page

  I have loaded and activated the NextGEN gallery. I have created a Gallery and uploaded images. I have ‘managed’ my gallery of 14 images and created thumbnails for each. Then when I open a page where I want to put the gallery, click on the NextGEN icon the little NextGEN window pops up with choices. The problem is when I try to select a gallery from the drop down, I don’t get an arrow and I can’t select anything from the list.
  I have tried to get around it by using shortcodes, but the photos end up on a big white square.
  Please help.
