"next/previous" gallery buttons don't work.

Hi. As above. My blog contains mainly image galleries. So it is a great pain when one clicks “next” and is immediately redirected to the LAST image in a post’s gallery. Is it possible to fix ?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

Thanks for reporting this malfunction, which evidently might be a bug. I’ll tag the topic for staff attention. Staff will respond here, but that might not happen until Monday.

  • Hi there,

This is because of the way image attachment pages work.

When you add an image to a post, it creates an image attachment page for that image, and currently your site is set to display that page if someone clicks an image in a gallery.

But attachment pages are ordered according to the order in which the images are added to the post, not the order you set in the gallery. They’re also attached to a particular post, so if you’re re-using an image that’s already attached to another post it might not show up at all via the Next/Previous links.

To have images appear in the order you specified in your gallery when you click through them, you can enable the gallery carousel instead. It has the added benefit of not requiring a new pageload, so will actually allow the images to load faster and use less data for people with slower/metered connections.

You can enable the gallery carousel here:

Well, i do not set images in any particular order. Nor do i use any image from one post in another post. I just load them from my PC and click “create new gallery”.
Carousel – i’m familiar with it. I stopped using it because i want to keep images being displayed at full scheme’s resolution ( in Rebalance theme – 1140 px). Images in carousel are too small for my needs.

  • It looks like a similar issue has been reported before, so I’ve added your case to the report, but I can’t tell you when it will be fixed, so for now the only option is to enable the carousel instead.
