nginx reverse proxy and SEO

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

I currently have a site such as foo.com this is running on nodeJS with an nginx proxy. I have another server hosting my blog which sits at something like blog.foo.com.

I have a reverse proxy on nginx that forwards traffic from foo.com/blog to blog.foo.com.

I’ve seen instructions for setting this up for a blog hosted on wordpress.com. So that’s not the issue.

The issue is in relation to SEO. I want all links on the blog to go through the proxy using foo.com/blog so that I don’t loose any link juice when the website is indexed.

I have this working on my own server by setting both WP_SITEURL and WP_HOME to foo.com/blog. I also have a plugin installed that allows admin login on a different URL than the usual wp_login.php.

This setup works great on the current system. However, we want to migrate our blog over to wordpress.com.

Is there a way to get this same setup working on wordpress.com?

    Thank you!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Correction, the blog listed above is not the blog I need help with. I didn’t know wordpress was going to tag that onto the bottom of my post. How come we can’t edit our topic once we create it?

We cannot edit because that privilege was previously abused by spammers, scammers, and opportunists looking for clicks.

I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question

  • Hi –

That’s the primary site connected to your WordPress.com user account. When creating a new post here you have the option to toggle between your sites or simple leave it blank. This is located in a drop down menu.

There aren’t any upgrades connected to your WordPress.com account. The sites listed in the post are not connected to us either.

When using the WordPress installation you will need to find help through your host or in the dedicated volunteer forums at https://wordpress.org/support/

I don’t think it would be possible even with a purchased redirect or under the Business plan upgrade. Users don’t have that kind of back end access here on WordPressdotcom.

However, I’d be happy if someone were to correct me. :)

That’s correct, we aren’t about to provide this level of customisation on WordPress.com. Logging in via WordPress.com or the WP Admin dashboard are the only options we support.

Is there another cloud hosting option, perhaps aws? that you would recommend?

I don’t have any specific recommendations but you could try contacting a few hosting companies about your requirements to see whether they can be accommodated.

If you continue using WordPress.org, these forums would be the best place to ask for advice: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
