NGO wants to move to WordPress
-
I am working with a local NGO that uses an old purchased WordPress page on an independent server. They are considering hosting their site on WordPress but would like to keep their address or as close to it as possible. In moving to WordPress they would also like to transfer the old site and them adopt a more appropriate new theme. Need advice on the technical aspects of such a move and the costs.
Any help will be appreciated. Frank Simpson

Hi Frank,
Do you mean the organisation would like to move their self-hosted WordPress site to WordPress.COM? That’s definitely possible!Transferring your blog content across should be pretty easy via WordPress’ built in Import/Export tools –
http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-from-wordpress-org
As far as themes go, WordPress.com offers more than 300 great themes to choose from –
Cost wise, it would just be the amount you spend for your new theme (if you don’t go for a free one!) and any upgrades you need such as a custom domain (if you want yourorganisation.com as the URL). More information on upgrades can be found here –
Good luck with the move, and please don’t hesitate to bump this thread if you have any other questions! :)

You can keep your existing domain name – domain mapping $ 13.- / year

Your account is 5 years old – so you don’t need to buy the Cable TV up-sell bundle – you should be able to purchase just the upgrades you need if the NGO blog is registered under your account and not a brand new account

To lastnote
Precisely–that is what they want to do!
I will get back to you after next week
