Nivo Slider – Edit overlay and text

I need to edit my Nivo Slider theme so the overlay colour is transparent and the text is removed/ underneath the slider. I am completely new at this and have no idea where to even go to edit this or how to code it. In desperate need of step by step beginners instructions. Thank you in advance.
