No Access to my Site

  • Unknown's avatar

No, it’s not the above site, the box won’t let me type in the one I want. I think what I’ve done wrong is to change my Username. At any rate all my Posts are still displayed on the web but I cannot get access to the Dashboard. When I try to log on I am told it is not available. I’ve read up how to transfer posts from one blog to another but if I cannot get into Travels in Europe and Asia to access the Tools button to enable me to do this, I feel it’s time I threw in the towel. So, does anyone know how I can quickly copy all my posts and images so that I can re-position them in a new Blog?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m sorry you are having so much trouble with this. I’ve poked around a little bit on your sites and looked at both of your questions. I think the problem is you have two usernames.

If you log on to WordPress.com with the username “maristravels” rather than “maritraveller” I think you might have better luck.

Let me know if that works or if you are still having trouble.

Thank you for trying to help but I am still having trouble. When I try to log on to WordPress.com it takes me to the site for starting a new blog. I can get on to my page of articles (don’t ask me how, but I can) which has ‘maristravels’ and ‘travelsineuropeandasia’ along the top but when I click on New Post it takes me to angie4 etc. and this is a totally new blog with nothing there. I want to continue on my old blog obviously. If this is not possible, and it looks as though I’ve done something to lock myself out, can I copy all my articles over to another site? And how easy it is? If I have to redo them all and insert the photographs from scratch it will take me a very, very long time. I appreciate any help you can offer.

If you click the link below, do you see both sites listed?

    https://wordpress.com/sites

If so, it may just be a case of needing to choose the right site on the new editor.

In the image below I’ve taken a screen shot of the new editor with a red circle around a small arrow. If you click on that arrow on your site are you able to access your original blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

Same again. Both sites are listed but neither are my original site. I only made the ‘marietraveller’ one yesterday in an effort to get somewhere, anywhere, because when I typed in ‘maritravel’ as my username it said this was already being used. Now I have two, ‘marietraveller’ and ‘angie4ineurope’! The original one is still eluding me. When I click on the little arrow that you pointed out, I get the same two sites listed but not the one with the articles on it.

Ok. That is still good information. That does mean you have two separate usernames. Let’s try this:

    1) Log out of WordPress.com.

Go to https://wordpress.com/. In the upper right corner you’ll see a small icon with your photo in it. click the photo to get a dropdown menu. Click sign out.

    2) Log back in to WordPress.com

Click this link to go to a dedicated login page: https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php

Under username enter “maristravels”. If you remember your password for the old account (not the new one) enter it. Otherwise click “Lost your password”

If you know your password you should just be able to get into the old account. If you don’t following the “lost your password” process should get you in.

Let me know how that works for you.

Nope, still no joy. The last link you gave takes me to WordPress.Org, is this what you meant? Anyway, this tells me that maristravels is not registered there nor is my password known to them. I also tried inputting my email but that didn’t work either.

  • Unknown's avatar

hmm. That’s strange. I tried having your password sent to you by following the same instructions (I entered “maristravels” as the username at https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php and the message I got was that it sent a text message to your phone to complete the account recovery process. So, if you got a random text message, that was my doing–sorry.

I’m going to tag this thread for staff assistance. They have more access to your account than I do as a volunteer, and should be able to help you more directly.

Thank you so much for your help so far and for tagging the problem for staff assistance. I look forward to someone finding the ‘fix’. Meantime, thanks again.

I was hoping to have heard from WP staff by now but so far nothing (and I have checked my Spam box). I received another comment on one of my articles today but again, I cannot reply because the comment comes to me via email but it is not added on the article on the site and of course, I cannot reply to it.

Just renewing my sub with one of my travel associations and I wanted to add my blog to the list but until I have it sorted out I cannot do this.

Hate taking up your time like this but ………………

I know it’s frustrating, but you either need to follow the account recovery process listed below or wait for staff to help.

    Recover Your Account

It’s also important to note that staff respond to questions starting with the ones that are the oldest. commenting on a thread makes it new again–basically causing you to lose your place in line.

    Ah, thanks. Points noted.

  • If you cannot remember the login information for a WordPress.com account, your best bet is to try the account recovery process here:

    https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

Due to the private nature of information required for account recovery and the public nature of these forums, we cannot help with account recovery here.

As it seems that no one can help me get my site back (it is still up there and people are still making comments about articles as I get emails telling me so but they are not published) can I start a new Blog site and put a link to this one? I thought I would just copy the articles over and then delete but the site doesn’t let me copy them. So, question now is, can I re-direct people to articles on my original site, from the new site that I propose to start?

  • Unknown's avatar

Only if you can log into it and buy the redirect upgrade.

  • Have you tried the account recovery process that I linked to?

Yes, rootjosh, I did try the account recovery process that you gave the link to but it didn’t help either.

  • Unknown's avatar

Raincoaster, that sounds a somewhat stark option!

  • but it didn’t help either.

By this, do you mean that you were unable to provide any of the data that would confirm that the site is yours?
