No access to Website – owner has moved away with no contact information

We have a website morpethlions.org and the person who created it has left our organisation leaving no contact information. We have no logon information, no Transaction ID, no activation key, so we cannot access the site.

Is there any way to get access?

WHOIS shows “Registry Expiration: 2023-01-09 14:04:48 UTC” for the URL. Will the site then be removed if it is not renewed?

    Thanks

    Richard Short

Sorry to hear that @richard9and1, do you happen access to email address used for the website? If so, you can reset your password and access your wordpress account. Here’s some info if you have access to your email.
    https://wordpress.com/go/tutorials/lost-your-wordpress-login-here-are-four-ways-to-recover-it/

If you don’t have any access, you’ll need to fill in the proof of ownership form at
    https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

I hope this helps in recovering your website.

    Best Regards

I have looked at the Account recovery form however I do not have a transaction ID,
an activation URL or key or two factor authentication codes, therefore the form will not let me to submit anything via the ‘Recover my account!’ button.

Do you have any kind of proof that you are able to provide to verify you are the rightful owner? Without those, you won’t be able to recover your site unfortunately. You can find more imformation regarding this at https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/#if-ownership-cannot-be-established

I would suggest you to contact somone on the team directly. Hpoe it helps.

Richard, since the site has a paid upgrade, someone in your organization can likely find the transaction ID. You can use that to regain access.

If the person who left the organization paid for it with their personal card, though, they really are still the owner. We won’t be able to grant access because we don’t have any evidence that the site belongs to you. They would need to transfer ownership to you if they are willing.

Would you remember their name and be able to find their contact info that way perhaps?

I don’t think that there is any possibility of contacting the person who paid for the site and who is therefore the owner.
We are not concerned about retrieving the content, we want to close the site down.
    WHOIS gives this information.
    Creation Date: 2018-01-09T14:04:48Z
    Registry Expiry Date: 2023-01-09T14:04:48Z

At the end of the paid for period, what will happen to the site if there is no renewal, will it be deleted?

    Thanks

    Richard

It won’t be deleted. After the domain has expired, it will be in grace period for 10days to 2weeks.

Your domain(morpethlions.org) will no longer show your website but morpethlions.wordpress.com will still show it.

It will usually go into redemption too, so you’ll want to be mindful of that:

Richard, your account isn’t at all associated with that site, but I did notice there are a few other site admins. Any one of them can make the site private at https://wordpress.com/settings , and then the site won’t show anymore.

Are you in touch with other organization members who have previously worked on the site?
