no “Add to Menu”, no place to define categories, searching for hours

    Dear colleagues,

    I nearly got crazy…

Looking für configuration possibilities that don’t exist…

First, I entered Menus, like here:
    http://img21.dreamies.de/img/630/b/s5couqnep1k.jpg
I tried to configure a submenu with the link address field left, beginning with “http://” I entered “http://gesundheit.wahrheitsforschung.wordpress.com”, and pressed “zu Menu hinzufuegen” (add to menu), and it didn’t work.

At the support site, the menu
    http://img8.dreamies.de/img/584/b/kdkklvtm9it.jpg
didn’t work, too, it didn’t exist.

And the categories, I tried to enter, I couldn’t enter that, too…
No possibility found to enter categories, maybe I can only define them after having entered some blogs and defining categories belonging to that blog.

And, the menu “meta” in that theme couldn’t be moved downwards, too….

    Comment:
I am Senator for rights for a justice organization, and in the health business, too.

I want to have either some menu themes or categories with health, right, finances and politics…
For readers, it should be easy to find the themes.

    Thanks for your help!
    Thilo

    Hello there,
I see you have the Motion theme on your blog. It is not among the themes that have the custom menu feature.

Currently, the following themes have this feature enabled: Twenty Ten, Structure, Vostok, Bueno, Enterprise, Notepad, Paperpunch, MistyLook, Under the Influence, Vigilance, Greyzed, Wu Wei, Blix, Freshy, Contempt, Ambiru, Digg3, Koi, Modularity Lite, Coraline, Oulipo, Ocean Mist, Tarski, Rounded, Albeo, Regulus, Andrea, Inuit Types, K2 Lite, iNove, and Fusion.

If you wish to use the custom menu feature please change themes to one of those listed above and follow these instructions. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

With reagrd to being unable to assign categories to posts (they cannot be assigned to pages) please try these troubleshooting techniques.

    1. Some issues that you encounter with your WordPress blog or account can be solved by changing your browser settings, refreshing the page, or clearing the browser cache and cookies. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/ The instructions for specific browsers are found here > http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050

    2. Some issues can be resolved by upgrading your browser.

    3. Some issues can be resolved by using another browser.

    4. Some issues can be caused by not updating your Flash. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.

    5. Some issues can arise from the way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers. There may be problems with your web host. Check known issues with your ISP and with your web host.

    6. Sometimes operating system and/or security system updates can cause issues. Check for known issues.

If none of the above work for you then please file a support ticket with Staff using this link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

    Thanks Timethief…

I’ve only got the category “uncategorized”, there’s no menu point at “Design” to enter categories…

    Or I didn’t detect them…

    regards,
    Thilo

You enter categories at posts > post categories in the dashboard. Categories will not show up on the blog nor in the categories list under custom menus until they have been assigned to at least one published post. If they did, and someone clicked on an empty category they would get an error page since there would be nothing for the software to display.

    thanks Thesacredpath.
I thought must define the categores “rights/health/consciousness/finances” first in the system, and then assign my blogs to that themes/categories?

    You’re welcome.

You can define categories “on the fly” so to speak when you write posts. There is a category module in the post editor, and a link there where you can create new categories when you are writing the post.

    Thanks…

Well, defining categories works fine, I found it out before reading your message, just simply by writing a blog in the left window, and adding oder assigning the belonging categories….

I changed to “Twenty Ten” as THEME…

When trying to define Categories, like in the wordpress help,
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/,
but no Menus could be added…

    That’s the situation:
    http://img15.dreamies.de/img/710/b/8sg92vd0dqe.jpg

By the way, the auto-login under Design doesn’t work any more…

    regards,
    Thilo
