    I would like all the ads removed from my blog. When I first started there weren’t any ads attached to each post and I would like to keep my blog the same way!I try to keep it educational but I do not see the link between ads for adults (partially naked man) and some posts about kids. Please remove the ads , I would really appreciate it!

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Did you buy the No Ads upgrade? The Terms of Service that you agreed to include the fact that WordPress.com runs ads on our sites that we may or may not see.

    There was no such thing when I registered my blog!

    There is now and has been for a couple of years.

    @TT says ads since at least 2006 when she started – there was a box “I agree to the Terms of Service” or to that effect – almost nobody bothers to read it but everyone checks the yes box – then acts surprised when the ads show up

    I have been blogging here since 2006. When I initially joined, there was no such Ad policy. However, it started later, so raincoaster is correct, this policy has been here for a long time. You have to cough up $30 a year to get rid of the Ads.

    You are wrong. Ads were introduced to our blogs in 2006.

    On Ads by Matt

    In our previous post, What’s your favorite feature?, a few of you listed “no ads” as one of your favorite features of WordPress.com. This made me uncomfortable—it’s not accurate, and I want to clarify. Since the ad test about 6 weeks ago there have been ads. … http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2006/09/06/on-ads/

    Ads have been here as long as I have, and that’s seven years. The No Ads upgrade has only been around about two years.

    @razadesoare
    To off-set the costs of providing free hosting to millions of bloggers, WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read the advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all.

    10. Advertisements. Automattic reserves the right to display advertisements on your blog unless you have purchased an Ad-free Upgrade or a VIP Services account. http://en.wordpress.com/tos/

    To eliminate all advertising on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs we can purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/no-ads/

    Congrats! on your 7 year anniversary here at WordPress.com, which was a in February. I just celebrated mine. Fortunately neither of us are suffering from memory loss and have many more years of blogging in us. lol :D

    Okay I should correct myself. The policy of Ads on WordPress.com were not the talk-of-the-town back when they were introduced (I joined Oct 2006). They eventually dawned upon on many people as time progressed. From my perspective, it took few of my international visitors to inform that they were seeing the Ads on the blog, otherwise I had no idea.

    The other issue is the type of ads – WordPress.com has tried different ad programs and not all of the programs had ads that fit the Terms of Service here – leading to Bangkok Escort ads if you wrote about Thailand and other surprises – those ad programs were removed fairly quickly but not before offending many people – also the frequency of the ads seem to have increased in some cases –

    All leading to a higher awareness of the ads

    Which is why I applied for WordAds: I never counted on the revenue, but I figured only one ad per entire blog was much less than otherwise, and didn’t cost me anything.
