No ads upgrade

  • Unknown's avatar

    Why can’t I find the no ads upgrade for £20?

    The only options I’m being given are Premium at £70 a year or Business at £210 a year.

    Can anyone help please?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    The separate No-Ads upgrade can be purchased and renewed as a separate upgrade only by those who have username accounts registered prior to September 1st, 2014.

    As that is not the case with your username account you have to purchase the premium bundle of upgrades that includes the No-Ads upgrade. See Premium bundle details http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/

    That sucks!

    Thanks for the info though :-)

  • Unknown's avatar

    Really? What makes you say that? For years there have been no price increases here for upgrade for years. Those of us who do have No-Ads upgrades and who have had them for years can still renew them individually. Newcomers with accounts registered after September 1st, 2014 have to purchase the upgrade bundles. Such is life everywhere in the business world.

    Because all I want is the no ads bit, I’m not interested in the extra storage or domain features, I just want to get rid of the ads. It seems a bit all or nothing and I’d prefer to be able to add individual features rather than bundles.

    Off to buy my bundle now!

  • Unknown's avatar

    I know exactly how you feel but adding features would not be workable as they are theme dependent.

    I have domain mapping upgrade and No-Ads upgrade on both of my two blogs. Several people I have helped have the same upgrades. It’s all they want or need. I think a new mini- bundle containing only those two upgrades would sell well. That’s why I’m tagging this thread so Staff are aware of my suggestion.

    I agree.

    Thanks for your help, much appreciated :-)

    Let’s hope they listen!

    You’re welcome.

    Agreed. :)

    not a chance –

    I and many others argued in the forum against the new Cable TV bundle plan pricing and we lost – the new plan is to “enhance” your experience by forcing you to buy stuff you don’t seem to want or need

    sort of like stopping by the coffee shop on your way to work and getting a latte or tea and a cookie – then one day you stop in and the price has went from $8.- to $99.- as you now have two large pizzas included as well as 4 liters of soda pop, 4 deserts, half a gallon of soup etc – and they tell you that they want you to have an “enhanced” experience – what would you do? Would you recommend the coffee shop to friends or shop there again?

    If you have a good friend (needs to be very trustworthy) that has an older account- the workaround is to add them to your blog and have their account buy the no ads at the reasonable and fair price

    Sorry for the bad news – because of the new “enhanced” experience I have stopped recommending WordPress.COM without a very specific disclaimer about the new pricing policy – it has cost WordPress.COM some business from people I know

    @auxclass
    I would never do what you suggest above for anyone else, and I would never expect another blogger to do what you suggest for me either.

    It has been years since prices changed at all, and I do think Staff may consider creating a mini-bundle upgrade containing just a domain mapping and no-ads upgrade in it.

  • Unknown's avatar

    As I said a very trust worthy friend since an admin can trash a site

    The no ads went up a dollar or so I think 2 or 3 years back – while prices have been slow to go up – the price of hardware had dropped greatly as has the cost of hosting with other hosts so I think the hardware price has dropped enough to keep the margins up – also WordPress.COM has set up the architecture in a manner that both makes the sites here more secure they are also easier to maintain and that holds the costs down

  • Unknown's avatar

    @auxclass
    I’m not into arguing about how WordPress.com management prices upgrades. I’m simply hopeful that a min-upgrade bundle may be introduced as well as the other bundles. That is all. :)

    Hi there!

    As I’m sure we’ve mentioned before here in the forums, we’re still iterating on our plans. What you’ve proposed, timethief, has come up and the store team is working really hard to come up with a new iteration on our plans.

    I don’t have any information about when this will happen, as its still currently “in the works”, but let me know if you have any more questions. :)

    That’s good news and I’ll be staying tuned.

    the problem with a ton of “mini upgrades” is that it gets complex fast and the programming is a mess – just give people a discount starting at $45.-/year – the more they spend the larger the discount – simple and fair to all – many places give discounts like that – free shipping over $50.- for example also

    and my suggestion would not save me any money

    you want to “enhance” my experience? Then lower the price of the standalone CSS to $5.-/year – then even I might buy it to fine tune the fonts a bit

  • Unknown's avatar

    @auxclass
    I did not suggest a ton of mini-upgrades. I suggested a single mini-upgrade containing two upgrades only (domain mapping and no-ads). And, I hope what you are posting does not obscure what I am actually requesting.

  • Unknown's avatar

    yes I know you suggested a single example – I can read

    My suggestion for a sliding discount for all standalone upgrades lets people build many different bundles based on their need – seems fair and simple to me – I can think of one or two other “mini upgrades” – but as I noted above it starts to make things very complicated

    This type of system has also come up in our talks. :) Hopefully the next iteration will strike your fancy better than our current one. I know you’re displeased with what we’re currently offering auxclass, but I hope you also know that we’re working on it.

    Allow me to be more blunt. I am not impressed by the fact that on threads of this nature that come to your attention that you appear want to launch into a negatively focused rant.

    I do not wish to have my positively focused suggestion made to Staff lost in yet another rant. Is that clear enough, or shall I risk suspension by inviting you to please go pee on another tree?

    suite yourself @TT

    the current pricing I don’t like and I don’t think is fair and is not in the tradition of what WordPress.COM was when I first moved here –

    I was sorry to see the change in tradition – yes I know that WordPress.COM needs to make money to stay viable and for my hosting to continue – I hope they survive for many years as I don’t want to move and I sort of like the idea that some of my stuff might live on after I die for others to learn a bit about the past (my neglected history blog) – or learn a bit about safe boating (my main site)

    I think that my suggestion of a price break based discount system is a positive suggestion that is simple and fair – and one that I pitch into the system from time to time –
