No advertising
-
I’m just curious about how wordpress doesn’t allow advertising. Now of course I don’t believe I’m going to be rich from blogging, but it would be awesome to make a few bucks if I get popular! Is advertising the only way?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Oh I also plan on buying my domain with WordPress. Should I go through a different host so I can advertise?
-
If you want to advertise, yes, you should get a different host. Buying the domain here is still a good idea, though, because it’s cheap and you can point it to a blog hosted elsewhere easily.
Note that most blogs set up specifically to make money from advertising fail to even cover the costs of hosting. It is a professional industry, and a highly competitive one. The days of slapping Adsense on your blog and buying a villa on the Riviera are long over.
-
I’m not setting up my blog to advertise specifically and I’m pretty sure I made that clear when I said “now of course I don’t believe I’m going to be rich”.
If anyone else would like to READ my question, I’d love to hear from other opinions. Are there other ways to generate some extra cash from a popular blog? (assuming I get popular) -
I READ your question. I’ve been a professional blogger for nearly a decade now, so I really can’t think of many people better-equipped to answer your question.
Until you have an average traffic rate of a thousand uniques a day, it doesn’t pay to self-host unless you have a niche market that advertisers are desperate for.
Other ways to generate cash from a blog on WordPress.com? Get hired by someone to blog for them, or sign up for the Word Ads program if you’ve got a custom domain. You will have to wait, as the backlog is over a thousand people waiting for approval.

…it would be awesome to make a few bucks if I get popular!
Yes, assuming you get popular. Doing what? What new and unique content are you going to provide in order to get… what, a dozen readers? Then twelve dozen, then a thousand? What exactly do you think is going to have to happen for you to have a popular enough blog that it could make a few dollars every month — either in advertising, or in ‘other’ money-making methods?
Raincoaster, whose main blog is a PR5, took the time to give you a sane, responsible answer to your question. Then you come back rude and stupid. Yeah, you’re walking up Popularity Hill already. Congrats, and good luck in the future.

I saw some talk early on the Word Ads program – sounded like 50,000 page views a year would take maybe two years to make Pizza money so they would send you a check – some others posted that this number is way optimistic
For a blogger with no Posts I think in your blog you might be getting a bit ahead of things
As noted above – you need to write material that people want to read every week –

Why is everyone here so rude and negative? Rain coasters original response was rude in my opinion! So I responded in the way I felt I had been treated! I’m so sorry to everyone for reading this. I’m sorry i got excited about starting my own website and GOD FORBID, being hopeful about it. Maybe being a little too optimsic, but its the first thing I’ve been optimistic in a while. I NEVER said I wanted to become rich, I NEVER said I wanted to throw as many ads as I could. Anyways, I’m going to start my blog, keep hopeful it helps others and not let negativity get to me. Thanks for all the “support”

You be welcome
We have became in some ways cynics about advertising – we see a regular parade of people that want to get rich with ads on their blog – looking at their traffic they are a maybe 10 page views a day blog with not much content –
Getting a lot of traffic is very difficult and takes a lot of work – look at http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/ for many hints by timethief.
Some people end up with blogs that get a lot of traffic – the best advice is to write about what you want to write about. Many different types of blogs have high traffic so no real guidelines there –
To keep traffic up on most blogs requires putting regular high quality content on it and that can take a lot of work in most cases – some of my Posts on my site took me between 50 and 100 man hours to do – some are easier – the type of material I Post is safety related so my checking standards need to be quite high – someone just doing a political rant or talking about a new sunrise maybe not so much research and peer review
good luck with you blog

Hello all. Would I be permitted to create on my WordPress blog a unique and customized post for an individual who pays me for this at/on another site, say Fiverr.com??? I hope I can do this, eventually.
