No API Key?

I installed my wordpress blog (www.uegda.com/blog) a while back, and stopped updating it due to being plagued by spam. I would like to install a plugin to stop it (askimet), but apparently I need a valid API key.

“To find your key go to your dashboard and then click on “Profile” (or “My Account”) and you should see a sentence that says “Your WordPress.com API key is:” followed by a string of 12 letters and numbers. There you have it!”

Well, this sentence is nowhere to be found on dashboard in my profile, or anywhere else in the dashboard. I installed it manually to the site. I believe I registered for WP while I was installing it, but the registration that I use on my blog (username is ‘Admin’) obviously doesn’t work here. I registered another blog (whits.wordpress.com) to see if there was an API key, and yes there was in the dashboard for the account, but it has nothing to do with my other blog on the uegda.com domain.

What can I do to get one? Somehow install one? Re-install everything?

(I have 958 spam comments awaiting moderation, and 594 that got by, I’m really sick of this.)

    Thanks,
    Ryan

Take the key you see on your Dashboard at whits.wordpress.com and use it on your wordpress blog at uegda.com

    Hope this helps,

I tried that after seeing it on the other site. When I did it, it said that it was invalid…

I’ll just email support for one.

whits – the akismet faq has the answer.

The key IS correct. It’s a hosting problem.

Geppo, the key just has to be a valid key that’s been assigned. Try using it on your own install. Just don’t give it out to others or it will get flagged.
