No category slug = LIFAC but I still can't change category name LI_FAC to LIFAC

i’ve searched everywhere in help & on this forum.
Problem: Want to change category name LI_FAC to LIFAC. Keep getting error message that the slug is already used by another term. I’ve searched through my 3 pages of category names but don’t see LIFAC. I searched categories via the search function, too. LIFAC is NOT listed.
Is there some other slug somewhere I can’t find where LIFAC is used? I’m not a new users, never had trouble before with changing category names.

Hi there. If you have a tag with that same name the tag could be hogging that slug. I’ve managed to have categories and tags with the same name, but different slugs, but I can’t tell you how I did that.

I’m sure there is a LIFAC tag so maybe that’s it, but … I am able to use LIF-AC, but when I tried .LIFAC or LIFAC. as the category name (. is less intrusive than the middle -) the category name still wouldn’t update. I know there’s no tag for .LIFAC or LIFAC. Any more ideas?
However, I just discovered that I could use “All LIFAC” and changed it that way. Very awkward kludge, but it probably will work for my readers for now. I may try again in a couple of weeks to see if the stupid no-rename problem has gone away.

Which blog are you having this issue with? I see you have quite a few and you don’t appear to have any categories with similar names to the ones you mentioned in the blog which you selected for this thread.

OK, there is indeed a tag for LIFAC, which is why you aren’t able to use that. You cannot use a period in front of the tag because in linux-based systems a period in front of an item has significance and so is almost always not allowed in naming items.
If you want, you can likely go through and create a new tag to take over the old LIFAC tag, delete the old LIFAC tag, and perhaps set that as your new slug, but the system may not surrender it. It should however!
