No checkbox under settings>discussions to take off option to allow comments?

Under “settings” > “discussions” . I am NOT offered a checkbox to not allow comments or pingbacks etc. It is simply NOT there. At the moment all I can do is keep comments that are made waiting to be approved so they don’t show up. PLEASE HELPME. I asked the blog developer and he just directed me the wordpress instructions, which I couldn’t follow because I don’t have the same checkbox as everyone else.

There are two different areas to check for comment settings if you wish to turn off comments completely.
The first is under Settings -> Discussion. Once changed, that should disable comments on all future posts and pages. It looks like you’ve properly disabled comments there, so that’s good! You can read more about this setting here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/The second is a per-post/per-page setting, meaning you need to edit the post(s) and page(s) in question to see it and change it. Posts or Pages created before comments were turned off by default will need to be edited individually. You can read about how to do this here:
